In my writing I express, try to express, my feelings of the moment, recreate my thoughts in words, and trans-create another poet's creation - across language, culture, and land. (The Sanskrit word for 'translation' is 'anuvaad'; anuvaad in its original meaning encompasses 'trans-creation' )
In my mother tongue, Hindi /Hindustani, the term used by translators of poetry is 'bhava-anuvad' - a free translation.
In my personal experience, the process involves internalising a poem (thought-emotion-expression), then creating my own poem in my language and idiom for my Hindi-speaking audiences - at home, in India, and abroad. (I live 'abroad', in Australia.)
So, that's just to gloss the terms used above!
